OData is a critical building block for Microsoft's Open Data strategy. OData is an open standard currently part of the OASIS process. OData delivers on the promise of making data available via RESTful APIs over the Web, regardless of the database vendor or the database location and respecting existing views, procedures and access control to the data.
In this video we show you how to create a new OData service using just solution templates and configuration processes within VS Express. We will create a model connecting to a prepopulated SQL Azure database and a WCF 5.6 Data Service that connects to this model and produces OData output. We will then use Excel's PowerPivot to consume the OData feed and will also discuss deployment options for Windows Azure.
